Things to do!

I’m finishing off a WordPress theme for Joie at the moment, she asked me to enable widgets, which I have never done before, and so I spent some time this morning looking into that.  If you are familiar with WordPress and styling lists it’s not too hard to get your head around actually.  I’m very pleased she pushed me into doing it!

I am taking my time styling her sidebar - I want it to look just right.  Hopefully, when I’ve added things into the footer and finished the sidebar the theme will be completed.  I’m not sure how long Joie will be using the theme for - but I hope she likes it.  I’ll post up a link once it’s all up and running for everyone to see. Of course you can also browse through her sexy pics! ;-)

I decided earlier on that sometime over the next week I will author a WordPress theme for users to download.  Something wintery, I have some really nice ideas for the images, and have already planned the main bulk of the layout itself.  I decided a while ago that creating free themes is a great way to bump up my portfolio of designs, I can set myself a theme of ‘corporate’ or ‘classy’ etc and design it accordingly.

Before I approach that project I need to finish Joie’s theme, and my Uncle has now asked me to have a go at his site for him too.  (Yay!) At least he can be safe in the knowledge that he’ll be getting a good design from me, and it will be search engine optimised too. (Not to mention it will be another project for my portfolio, woo!)

I am starting back to work next week which I’m half looking forward to.  I really really need the money at the moment - I had saved a lot of money up for Christmas, and to put towards a new camera (well, about £200 in total) but I need to pay this months rent out of that as I’ve not worked for a month.  (My Dad’s been ill, so I’ve been at home.) Never mind, I’ll just have to save after Christmas.  I guess if I get it in spring, I can take pictures of blossom and ducklings and things, heh heh.

Last but never least, also on my massive list of things to do is my WordPress update.  I don’t know which version I am running on this site, but it isn’t the most current. I should perhaps alter the layout at some point too.  It’s been this way for a few months and I am starting to tire of it!  Heheh.  It’s toooo brown!

Well, after all that, I am ready to go and finish Joie’s theme now.  Do you have lots of things to be doing, or should you be working on anything at the moment?

Oh I plan my layouts a lot… I even end up dreaming about them ;) And then I get to the point of opening Photoshop… drawing some shapes half heartedly… and maybe get to code the layout. But I generally get bored of it way before it is ready to be coded :P

Aside this, it’s good to take your time… I mean, it only took me a little over 3 months to design/code/style my current layout. Then again, I tended to write on single line of CSS (an attribute for some tag), which ended up getting deleted (alongside 4 others) a couple of days later.

But good luck with the theme. A word of advice: don’t try to follow tutorials. Just take the classical theme and tweak it around till you get the hang of it. Once you do, you are free to create your own completely from scratch.

Well, I haven’t seen anyone with a right aligned layout before so, I did one. I also prefer centered layouts, but wanted to try something different.

And the layout is wrapped in a div, so I can align it center, left, right with a few clicks of my mouse ;]

I’m not sure… but boy, someone is busy! I envy your layouts so much anyway, do you have a portfolio? Maybe I’m stupid but I can’t find it.

Vera, I always create my own theme from scratch, well except for the comment file, never been too bothered about styling those much differently.

I am thinking about adding wordpress to my site and/or getting captcha. I get so much junk in my mail. I think I spend more time trying to get rid of it than I spend doing anything else x_x

PS - Your layouts look great.
