Choosing Colours
Selecting a colour scheme for your website.
So you’ve decided to design yourself a website, but not sure where to start with the colour scheme?
Firstly, think about who your website is aimed at. It is not a good idea to design a website for boys clothing with header images created in pink and purple, so make sure your colour scheme is relevant to your target audience.
Secondly, surf around on some of the websites that are dedicated to colours and colour schemes. Examples include paint websites, such as the Dulux website, and scheme sites just like ColourLovers, Kuler and ColorSchemer. You can choose colours from these sites, or just use them for inspiration. See this post for more colour sites.
Another idea is to open your picture folder, or browse some stock image websites, and choose an image. Pick a picture (or texture) you like and use it for the main focus or your site. When you choose a picture, use a picker tool in image editing software (such as photoshop) to collect the colours from your image.

Now you have an idea of the colours to want to use on your site, open a drawing and image editing program, and put all the colours next to each other, in a line. (Like I did, right)
You might not like the look of some colours next to each other, they may clash or both be too bright. Try editing the contrast and brightness levels of some colours until you find an effect you like.
Now you may start to assign those colours for any links and headers (etc) in your web page.
