About Twisted-Barfly

The name of my web site comes from a song I love by a band I love, called Turin Brakes. The song is ‘The Boss.’ If you’ve heard of them I salute you, you’re officially as cool as me.

…’and I’m stuck to this sink like a twisted barfly, a good view from the window, but I ain’t got no wings..’

It is about going to work ‘inside a kitchen, making mush and cleaning deep fat fryers,’ which pretty much sums up my old job. (I had that job when I registered the name of this site!) So not only is it a good song, but I could relate to it. Hehe. You can read the lyrics here.

The things I use to make this blog include: WordPress 2.5, Winsyntax 2.0, Photoshop & Illustrator CS2, and Ipswitch WS_FTP Home.

The icons used throughout this site are: Sweetie Cute and Clear Icons, and after deciding I wanted a clean looking but colourful site I saw this tutorial and created my own version.

Plug-ins that make this site all that extra funky are All-in-one-SEO, Sideblog, BreadCrumb Navigation and CQS.

Last but never least, big ‘thank you’ to tutorialtastic for teaching me about the wonders of php, css and xhtml, and web designer wall for recommending the plug-in lists that I adore.

Past Versions:

Version 1

This is version one. I wanted to go for something that looked clean, plain and web 2.0
I kept it live for a few months, but in the end changed it for a more colourful theme:

Colour ful version 2

Version two. I loved this theme as I created the header after playing for the first time in Illustrator. It lasted another couple of months, and in the end I fancied playing with some CSS and creating something different:

barfly new theme

another colour

Versions three, and three point one. I did love these themes initially - but in the end got fed up of only having a small amount of content on the home page. I wanted to create something a little more spacious:

twisted old black n white

Version Four: I really loved this theme, but I tired of the black and white after a few weeks. So I created the theme you’re viewing now. Which I like to describe as Twisted Barfly on Acid.
