Simple Flower 2 - Illustrator Tutorial

This is another quick and simple Illustrator tutorial - View the last flower tutorial?

This is aimed at people like me who do not have a lot of experience will Illustrator.  The simple flower I’ve drawn here could be used for anything like background images, or to create scrapbooking embellishments out of.

Stage: Beginner
Time: About 5 Minutes.

What you will be learning to draw:

Create a new document, and draw and using the polygon tool, draw a polygon. I draw a 6 sided one. (As Below:) Ensure that it has a fill. I chose a nice bright orange colour!

Next, in the effect menu, go to ‘Distort and Transform‘ then ‘Pucker and Bloat.’ Use the settings below:

If your polygon/flower is a different size, you may wish to bloat it slightly less, or slightly more.

Now, copy your image, and using ‘Ctrl‘ and ‘F‘ (Or ‘Edit‘ -> ‘Paste in Front‘). Place a duplicate of your flower in front of the original. Now, right click the flower on top and ‘Transform‘ -> ‘Scale‘. Next, follow the following step:

With the duplicate still selected, change the colour to something complimentary. You should now have a smaller flower in the middle of the big one.

Next select the first, larger flower you created. Expand the stroke palette and give your flower a nice big stroke. Change the stroke to the same colour as the fill, and select ‘dashed line.’ I put the settings to ‘1pt‘ dash and ‘2pt‘ gap.

You should now have the final flower image. I duplicated mine, and added further colours. You could add more dotted shapes, lines and spirals to create a bright, summery feel!
